Govt. re-commences youth oriented activities in North

The Government re-commenced youth oriented activities in the North by establishing district offices of the National Youth Services Council, Vocational Training Authority and National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority in the Kilinochchi district, Presidential Secretariat sources said on Tuesday (15).

The Ministry of Youth Affairs has organised a series of events to restore public facilities for the convenience of the newly resettled IDPs in the Kilinochchi district today and the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs has organised other public oriented activities tomorrow (Friday), the sources said

Kilinochchi District Secretary Mrs. Rupawathi Ketheeswaran said that Minister of Youth Affairs Dallas Alahapperuma and Deputy Mahindananda Aluthgamage flagged off the inaugural service of three new bus routes of the SLCTB operating from Kllinochchi.

Today the Minister will be present at the opening of the main office of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and two Sathosa outlets in Kilinochchi town alongside the A-9 Highway.

A medi-clinic would also be held this morning for the benefit of the public. A volleyball tournament would be conducted in the evening. The Minister and his deputy would participate in the release of 200,000 freshwater fingerlings into the Akkarayankulam and adjoining tanks.

Tomorrow (18), Minister for Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs, W. D. J. Seneviratna and deputy Dilan Perera would open the Divisional Secretariat constructed at a cost of Rs. 9 million at Nedunkerni.

On the same day they would open the ‘Sewa Piyasa’ Centre as a model project for the use of grama sevakas, agriculture officers, midwives and Samurdhi officers, so that they may implement community oriented micro development projects costing under Rs. 2 million, the sources said
